Some of these gifted artists may be bigger than what you consider "indie," but they all captured the spirit of the genre in '09. It's hard to pinpoint why they're just so cool, but they make it seem effortless. Personally speaking, I've been listening to Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix by Phoenix and It's Blitz! by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs on a repeat loop, but there were plenty of other albums to choose from. Which one is your favorite?

O wow... It's really a split for me between Phoenix, the Decemberists & YYYs... so I went with YYYs for my vote, because I've loved them since I was younger & It's Blitz! has rocked my socks...
YYYs...I could listen to that album over and over.
YYYs...It's Blitz is an amazing album.
I listen to all these bands ! It was such a hard choice! When it came down to it I had to think about which has been most faithful in th past as well as my current music playlists, and the YYY came out on top!
i had to choose iron & wine over grizzly bear. i wish i could have chosen both
I went with Neko, but I really love so many of these!
Phoenix! I love that album. I listen to it like once/day.
Veckatimist by Grizzly Bear, followed closely by Merriweather Post Pavilion, Animal Collective.
I chose Phoenix because it was my favorite album of the year, but can they really be considered indie now that they sold out, and sold "1901" to Cadillac for a commericla?
YYY. I can't explain how in love I am with that album.
The Dead Weather! Jack White is a genius.
I. Love. Grizzly Bear.
animal collective ! but this was a pretty difficult chose. the YYY and grizzly bears and passion pit all had pretty good albums
